I was a member of a prestigious golf club in South London that had a large Irish contingent. I was told the club bar sold more Guinness than any other outlet in London. While not my first choice of beer/ale I drank my fair share. As I had business interests in Cork, and in the spirit of local solidarity, I also consumed large quantities of Guinness’s rival Murphy’s. Unfortunately in the South West of England neither feature, and as a consequence I haven’t had a decent glass of stout in ten or more years.
Guinness is definitely my fall back stout that I keep at hand though having it drawn at a pub is the best. Here in Maine there is a thriving craft brewing community. Once I'm out and about if a pub/bar has a stout available I'll order theirs. Haven't been disappointed yet. Lately I've been favoring an amber ale called Runabout Red from the Sebago Brewing Company (http://www.sebagobrewing.com) and Presque Isle Honey Blonde brewed by Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company (https://www.geaghans.com).
