Chasm City

Just finished reading Alastair Reynolds' "Chasm City". This is the second book of his I've read, The first being "Revelation Space" which I found very absorbing. Chasm City takes place in the same broad time period as RS with a few common references as to places, people and history which adds to the depth of the storyline. Again the reader gets to follow along on several different storylines which end up combining in a completely different manner than the ones in RS and were very cleverly done as story connections were revealed. This book entails deep space travel, civilizations 100s of years in the future, dark times, misdeeds, wondrous technology and technology gone mad. When I had time for my mind to wander I often thought back to parts of the story I had recently read, mulling over what had taken place and what it might be leading to. If you like your science fiction deep and dark as a good French roast this book will make a dent in your desire.
