After dealing with a medical issue yet to be fully resolved Carol and I had taken off to the State of Pennsylvania for a getaway vacation/hiker support trip though mid May. Ian was hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail with his dog Io (E,o). He has hiked sections from the southern states at different times over the years and now doing a two week stretch from Virginia to northeast Pennsylvania. We meet up with him along his way to resupply his and Io's food. Meantime, Carol and I were based at a hotel in Harrisburg with in room kitchen facilities. Hanging out with us was our cat Scotia. That's a story itself. Driving there was a 10 hour trip, a little draining for sure. Longest drive in one day I've ever done.
Our vacation/sightseeing activities began the next day at Harpers Ferry, one of many Civil War sites in the region. This is also where Ian began his hike and left his car for Carol to drive back to our hotel. We mostly hung around the hotel then late afternoon drove to the Harrisburg's City Island where we had tickets to watch the minor league baseball Harrisburg Senators play there. Before that we had taken a walk along the Walnut Street Bridge the oldest surviving bridge over the Susquehanna River now a pedestrian/bicycling crossover. Nice view of the river and multiple bridges downstream.
Visited Lancaster one day, the National Civil War Museum another day, re-shocked Ian a couple more times and after another day made our way home.
Very happy to be back.
Again, writing about an activity that's almost "ancient" history. Trying to get better but obligations keep getting me sidetracked.
