Slacker holiday

Workload has really done a 360 the last two weeks from feast to famine. I had wanted things to tone down a bit but not to the point of thumb twiddling so instead of being bored stiff today I took the day off. After a in-house workout, watching some news I've been catching up on some online stuff I'd been ignoring. More for reasons of being brain tired from the office on weekdays to just being busy with other activities on weekends. Have had some success at that though some of it has been like chasing squirrels. After several sunny days the ground and lawn had gotten dried out so a good soaking rain after lunch may provide some relief.

Scotia hanging out in the rain.
Been a good spring for the visiting birds at my feeders so far. Besides the usual wrens, chickadees, woodpeckers, cow birds, morning doves, gold finches, turkeys and hummingbirds a pair of cardinals have taken up resides nearby adding some much needed red color to the surrounding yard. Squirrels are regulars too, not fond of that but there is plenty of seed droppings but one has been adept at reaching around one of the baffles to get up on the sunflower feeder, have to figure out how to put a stop to that. Shouted at him a couple times while writing this... here he comes again.

Finally broke out the kayaks Sunday afternoon. Never touched them last year. Carol and I did a almost 2 hour paddle on the Tenney River about a 5 minute drive from home. Felt good, then paid the price for it later in the evening, hit the sack earlier that usual.

On the family news front - Ian and Ali are on their way home from living in the San Francisco Bay area for almost two years. Should be in Chicago by tonight, maybe back in New England by Sunday-ish???
